Bridge Insight : New Development in Long Span Arch Bridges
Prestressed concrete (PSC) segmental box girders are widely used in highway and railway construction. Their inherent high torsional resistance, economy, and lower overall maintenance costs make them a good choice for a number of applications. Though, it is important to note that their design is highly dependent on the construction means and methods used.
The webinar will be introducing PSC box girders and describing fundamental concepts relating to their design. Different construction methodologies for segmental PSC box-girder bridges will also be discussed.
A design example using midas Civil will also be shown in the webinar.

Key point 1: What are PSC Box Girders?
Prestressed concrete (PSC) box girders are concrete sections following a boxed shape, which are supported by prestressed strands. Their inherent high torsional resistance, economy, and lower overall maintenance costs make them very attractive in both highway and railway construction.
Key point 2: Segmental Concrete Bridges
Segmental concrete bridges involves the assembling of smaller pieces (called ‘segments’) using posttensioning tendons. The challenge in these types of bridges is that the means of construction greatly affect the design of the bridge.
Key point 3: Design Example using midas Civil
The webinar will demonstrate how to use midas Civil in forming a structural model and performing analysis. Design requirements and concepts will also be discussed.
