Jacket-Type Offshore Structure Modeling

“3D ISO model and analysis integration can be done simultaneously.”

We will introduce a method for creating a 3D ISO model that can be analyzed using CIM.

To briefly explain the model, it is a jacket structure driven into the seabed and supported by horizontal, vertical, and inclined structural members. A deck is installed on top to accommodate processing and residential facilities, among others.

It is a structure capable of withstanding wind and waves, achieved through a combination of massive piles, columns, beams, and braces.

In this practical application case, we utilize template sections to complete the ISO model and also utilize it as an analysis model. Additionally, by using the cutting function, it is possible to upgrade the level of detail (LOD) of the joint sections.

Here is a step-by-step guide on modeling jacket structures:

1. Extract the shape lines from the DWG drawing.

2. Load the DWG file into the CIM software and assemble the lines considering the shape (using Move, Copy, and Rotate functions).

3. Utilize the Steel Member creation function to assign cross-sections to the lines.

4. Define the Cutting Property for each member using the Tool and Target functions of Cutting.

5. Define analysis cases using the Analysis function (Support, Link, and Member Divide).

6. Extract it as a midas Civil file. You can confirm that the analysis model has been created.

This is the final model. What do you think? It's not too difficult, right?

We also recommend midas CIM for modeling vertical structures, not just linear-based ones.

You can see a detailed process of Jacket modeling in the video below.
